As Day 2 of PRSSA National Conference is winding down, we asked some of our members to reflect on their experience thus far.
“The level of professionalism is nice to be around,” said Maria Mayorga, Special Events Director.
While we all love Chapel Hill and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, it’s been nice to get away for a few days and interact with other future professionals. We’ve had great practice networking with both students and professionals. We love seeing everyone dressed in their business casual, and love seeing people’s business cards and resumes!
So far we’ve attended Professional Development sessions on White House communications, international public relations, media relations, entertainment/sports public relations, and corporate vs. agency work.
We’ve heard from a variety of different professionals in all different aspects of public relations, which has helped us hone in on how we want to develop our careers. We’ve also gotten some great tips on how to stand out in the applicant pool.
“Even in the sea of unfamiliar faces, the business people in the industry definitely know who UNC-Chapel Hill is,” said Christina Kaemmerlen, a two time National Conference attendee. “Students should capitalize on that.”
