Hi PRSSA members!
I wanted to see how you all felt about the publicity that the burning of the Koran on 9/11 by Florida Minister Terry Jones recieved. For those of you who may have missed this… Florida Minister Terry Jones called for people around the world to set fire to copies of the Koran on 9/ 11, a day Jones dubbed International Burn a Koran Day. Fox News was criticized for not broadcasting this story enough to the public. Many people felt that publicizing the event would enforce a negative image that Americans have and possibly cause danger to troops that are overseas. Fortunately, the event did not take place.
As soon to be PR professionals how would you handle this situation? There is a big debate about freedom of speech, which is what Minister Jones was doing. But would you cover the event if you felt it was morally wrong? Let us know what you think!
